EVENT FOR ALL AGES: "REALIZING THE DREAM?: Racial Justice in Prince George's County, a Panel Presentation & Dialogue." Mon., Jan. 15 10:30 AM to noon at Davies Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church in Camp Springs. Child care and video/activities for children provided (with advance reservation). Canned food and/or monetary donations to the Oxon Hill Food Pantry for admission. Speakers will include the President & founding members of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, Carolyn Corpening Rowe, Jane Taylor Thomas, and Nathania A. Branch Miles. Their books "Prince George's County: Maryland (Black America Series)", "Oxon Hill (Images of America)", and "Fort Washington (Images of America)" will be available for purchase. Davies Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church in Camp Springs, Maryland exists to perpetuate the vision of A. Powell Davies (who pioneered racial justice causes in Washington DC in the 1950's) by providing a place for a UU religious community to:
* serve the spiritual needs of its members;
* provide mechanisms for the religious education of children and adults (including anti-racism & anti-oppression);
* inspire its members and friends to live by their moral and ethical principles (including justice, equity, and compassion, and the goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all);
* engage in activities which serve the needs of the larger community; and
* foster social interaction and mutual support.
